A twenty-character inscription (including two repeated characters) is cast in the bottom of the bowl. The inscription may be translated as, "The Marquis of Xue makes [this] pan for Shu Yin Xiang in marriage. [May she] live for ten thousand years and [may] sons and grandsons treasure and use it forever."
